Dear Friends and Family,
I am getting all set to participate in the Challenged Athletes Foundation Triathlon, their 25th year! I am looking forward to this years challenge and have to admit I have slacked off in training because of a few set-backs, but I WILL complete my portion of the course! (By the way, my being a recipient of a CAF grant for a new WCMX Wheelchair in 2016 helped me increase my skills and to place 3rd at this years WCMX World Championships!! It has been such a joy to share my skills and mentor the kids learning this sport.)
We are raising money for the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) – a 501c3 non-profit foundation that gives hope to thousands of individuals with physical disabilities around the world. They provide support, mentoring, and grants for adaptive sports equipment, competition and training expenses, physically challenged athletes are able to become whole through sports.
Did you know there are 40-50 million people with physical disabilities in the U.S. alone? Only 1 in 10 physically challenged people participate in sports. There is a large population of people who aren’t able to go for a jog, play basketball, or participate in many of the sports activities so many of us enjoy. But it isn’t because they lack the desire, or skill. They usually lack the support and funding to get the resources they need.
Adaptive sports equipment like basketball wheelchairs cost up to $5,000, while running prosthetics can cost more than $30,000. Learning to swim when you lack a limb (or limbs) requires special coaching. Insurance typically does not cover these expenses. Just like me, these challenged athletes want to participate in athletics and feel the rush of competition, but they face a major obstacles. CAF is helping thousands of people of all ages, ethnicities, and disabilities realize their dreams. Still, we need your support to get even more challenged athletes to the finish line. Please help me reach my funraisinmg goals! For more information please check out the CAF website. I know you will be impressed!
Thank you in advance for your donation!
Love and hugs, Tracie Garacochea
